The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a commonly used and simple method to assess whether your weight is in proportion to your height. It calculates a number that falls within a specific health zone, from underweight to obese.
Categories | BMI-waarde |
---|---|
Underweight | < 18,5 |
Healthy weight | 18,5 – 24,9 |
Overweight | 25 – 29,9 |
Obesity | > 30 |
NB: BMI is a guideline and does not take into account factors such as muscle mass, ethnicity, pregnancy, or medical conditions. Use this tool as an indication, not as a medical diagnosis.
Underweight: Possible risk of deficiencies or reduced resistance.
Healthy weight: You are within the guideline for a balanced body weight.
Overweight / obesity: Increased risk of health risks such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes or joint pain.
BMI helps you get an idea of your weight and potential health risks, such as heart disease or type 2 diabetes. However, it's not a perfect indicator. You can consider it a starting point for insight into your well-being. Be aware that it's just one of many factors that play a role in your health. Other factors include your diet, smoking, stress, and sleep.
